Founded in May 1918 and chartered by Kiwanis International on September 4th, 1918, the Kiwanis Club of Newark, Ohio has a long and distinguished history of civic service in Licking County.  This year marks our 100 year anniversary, in which we celebrate 100 years of serving the children of our local community and the entire world.  We also celebrate the hard work and dedication of our members who give of their time, talents and resources to make the world around them a better place.

The Kiwanis Club of Newark holds a number of annual fundraisers. Our most notable, the Kiwanis Strawberry Festival, is held annually on the weekend after Memorial Day in Downtown Newark.  The strawberry-themed festival draws thousands of people from all across Central Ohio. The Strawberry Festival features arts and craft vendors, a wide-variety of musical entertainment, a Miss Strawberry Pageant, and of course the famous Newark Kiwanis strawberry shortcakes.  Our other popular fundraisers include our annual Pancake Day, held annually in late February at the Grove by River in Newark, and our annual Fish Fry hosted in every September at Camp O’Bannon.  Proceeds from all three of these fundraisers go towards supporting our signature service project Camp O’Bannon, a summer camp that allows more than 400 disadvantaged children to enjoy a week of bonding, playing games and swimming, among other exciting activities.

In addition to supporting Camp O’Bannon, the Kiwanis Club of Newark sponsors two exceptional Key Clubs at Newark High School and Newark Catholic High School, as well as an AKTION Club, the only service club for adults with disabilities.  Our club members also helped to fulfill the Kiwanis International mission through the Eliminate Project, a joint effort with UNICEF, to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from the face of the earth. For these efforts coupled with our local philanthropy, Kiwanis International awarded us with the title of a “Model Club.”

The Kiwanis Club of Newark meets every Monday from 11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, 50 N. Second Street, Newark, Ohio. We enjoy lunch and fellowship, as well as a guest speaker from the community. In short, there are many great and exciting reasons to be a Kiwanian.  I invite you to attend one of our meetings to learn more about our exciting club, and how you might benefit from becoming a Kiwanian yourself and serve the community alongside of us.  We would love to have you!
